The Big Summer Read starts Sunday 1 December 2024 and registrations are now open.
The Big Summer Read is open to people aged 0-18. Participants can register and log their reading via readbooks.com.au/bsr and choose Central Highlands Libraries as their primary library. You’ll be automatically entered into the state-wide prize draw once you reach 10 books read.
Want to participate offline? Drop into any Ballarat Libraries branch and collect a reading journal card. Reading journals are ineligible for state prizes but will be eligible for the local prize draw.
State Prizes
Prizes for the state prize are book packs.
Ages 0-4: Board books
Ages 5-8: Picture books
Ages 8-12: Junior fiction/graphic novels
Ages 12-18: YA fiction/graphic novels
Winners and their nominated library service will be notified via email.
Local prize
One local winner will be drawn at random from participants who complete the paper entry. The winner will receive a family pass to the Ballarat Wildlife Park valued at $100.

Are you ready for the Big Summer Read? Drop in to one of our Bookmark Crafternoons during the first week of December. Use your creative flair to make a bookmark ready to use with your summer reading. You can also join up online or take a reading journal home while you’re at the library. Make sure you borrow some books to make a start on the competition.
